Purpose and Belief Statements of Chosen Vessels Ministries, Inc.
Our purpose is to encourage maturity and oneness among the people of God so we can shine as lights in the midst of darkness. Though we love all of God’s people, we are specifically called to women and women of color in particular. We aid women to wholeness in spirit, soul, and body. We also challenge them to change into the image of God. We believe deceptions, half-truths, lies, unbalanced truths are used to keep people away from Truth, the son of God. We strive for truth in balance. We believe the knowledge of truth brings freedom.
There is no set of beliefs that we feel must promote or defend. We do not teach doctrine as much as we teach living. Our purpose is not to push our viewpoints, no matter how convinced we may be in them. We desire to lift up Jesus Christ who will bring necessary change in one’s thinking, attitudes or emotions. He indeed means more than tradition or a set of doctrine. We do believe everyone is responsible for being open to new ways of thinking and has the responsibility to search the scriptures to see if what they are being taught is true (Acts 17:1). Though not a doctrinal statement, we share with you statements that communicate our heart.
Statements:
1. We desire to see people grow up in Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is Truth, Life and the one and only way to God the Father.
2. The Word of God and the Holy Spirit of God together in balance reveal, bring knowledge and full expression of Jesus Christ to mankind. The test of growth in Christ is our love to God. Our relationship with others is a test of our love to God. An extreme emphasis on the Word of God without a corresponding emphasis on the Spirit of God or vice versa will lead to a lack of love either to God or others.
3. The Bible is divinely inspired of God. It was written by the Holy Spirit who moved upon human instruments. All of it is right and true. It needs to be rightly divided and all of it is profitable either for doctrine, reproof, correction or instruction in rightousness. The Holy Spirit is the interpreter of the Scriptures and will make clear what He has written. Study aids are useful as they are subject to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, but overdependence on scholarly understanding of the Word can indeed lead to wrong interpretations of the Word’s spirit and purpose, if not its content. The canon of Scriptures is not all that God has ever said or will say, but it represents that which God has chosen to record as the message He wanted for man. As such it stands in a category by itself. Nothing else said to man will be added to that record. All else He speaks has its foundation in the Scripture and embraces the spirit and purpose of the Scriptures.
4. The Spirit of God is given of God to be in, upon, filling, through, with, surrounding, and overflowing the people of God. All of the works of the Holy Spirit are placed in the believer at the new birth. But growth and maturity determine how much is actually utilized. The Holy Spirit can be in as full operation today as in the Word of God if He is not quenched or grieved. The Holy Spirit guides us in our understanding of Truth by glorifying Jesus Christ. His work is the production of the fruit and power of the Life of Christ in a believer. The fruit consists of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. The gifts of the Spirit are a result of the power of Jesus who gives enablements beyond one’s natural abilities that bring wholeness and destruction of the enemies’ works in the lives of individuals. Sometimes gifting operate without regard to spiritual maturity. Gifts become less and less important as fruit is produced; but are always needed.
5. The Body of Christ, controlled by Jesus the head, is an organism, not an organization. Sometimes ministers God has given to the Body to help it grow, form organizations. Members of the Body of Christ can often benefit from these organizations when the leaders are faithful in fulfilling the call of God upon their lives. However, membership in a Christian organization is not a guarantee of membership in the Body of Christ. Membership in the Body of Christ comes by acknowledgement and surrender to the grace and work of Christ on the cross of Calvary in a spiritual rebirth. Fellowship together, especially in small groups, within or without organizational structures, should not be neglected. Relationships that include accountability, transparency, and which provide opportunity for members to express their faith one to another in encouragement, prayer, bearing burdens, challenging, teaching, etc. are important to the outworking of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit in our lives.
6. Forms of fleshly pride such as dogmatism or superiority attitudes are fertile ground for the kingdom that opposes God to continue their plan of causing divisions and promoting distortions of the truth.
7. Oneness, love, humility and prayer among members of the Body of Christ in spite of differences in opinions, callings or understanding is of utmost importance to glorifying our Lord Jesus Christ, demonstrating to the whole world that God has indeed sent Him.
